Data centre energy efficiency and power cost management

Efficient Data CentresWhat We Do

To date, we've worked with clients to consider Carbon Neutral rack-space, we've removed costs via alerts and switching to generators at peak times, and our timed energy purchasing has reduced margins further; the average data centre can look to save 18-25% power cost using our full energy management service.

Wholesale energy purchasing, Electricity Demand Response, STOR contracts, & climate change agreements are all things you should consider if you own or operate a data centre.

If you are a new data centre we can work with you to gradually 'ramp up' your consumption utilising short term contracts whilst providing you with budget certainty.

During the 1st November to end of February period (TRIAD period) we can work with you to minimise your costs & where possible work with you and your on-site generation equipment to profiteer from a struggling national grid.

What will work best will depend upon 4 main things:

  • the set-up of your generation equipment
  • the capacity of your data centre
  • it's occupancy
  • your business objective

A meeting with one of our team is the best step to understand what we need to do to minimise your costs, improve your data centre’s energy efficiency and exposure to the markets.

Managing the cost and the supply is vital for how competitive we are as a business. We are not that experienced in buying large units of power. For me the relationship works really well because we have multiple points of contact to answer any questions. They come to see me. It’s not just about a power supply into the building. We rely on amber to get to know our business & to provide us with a commercial service that works really well for us. "

It's important to note your competitive advantages over other businesses as a data centre and to take advantage of them. Whilst you are power hungry per square foot you are also have a 'tidy' consumption pattern - this offers nice blocks to trade energy. Data centres offer certainty to energy suppliers and with this comes the opportunity to reduce your unit charges by using energy trading within delivery periods. Head Trader, amber energy
