Reports claim that Barclays bank has approached potential buyers on behalf of EDF to gauge interest in buying the facilities, the energy firm are yet to comment publicly.
The French utility firm owns two coal plants; Cottam and West Burton A – and West Burton B gas power station in the UK. They have plans to build two reactors at Hinkley Point in Somerset but are yet to make a final decision.
However CEO Vincent de Rivaz insisted the project will go ahead, with plans to commission it in 2025.
Last year the UK Government announced all unabated coal-fired plants will be closed by 2025.
